About the practice 

Optometric Associates was established in the 1960s by Dr. George Bournakle and is currently equally owned and operated by Douglas Henry O.D. Phd.  and Stephen Ebersole, O.D.  This practice has provided full-service optometry to the residents of Androscoggin County for over 60 years.  Optometric Associates is looking to grow its team of 18 staff members, and potentially expand to a second location in the future. 


As a long-standing business in the community, this practice focuses on providing exceptional care and high-quality products to patients. The office is warm, comfortable, and welcoming. The practice is well-appointed with seven fully equipped exam lanes and a centralized pre-work up and special testing are that includes auto refractors, auto lensometers, SD- OCT and fundus photography, Humphrey visual field machine, non-contact tonometer.   Patients enjoy a family-friendly shopping experience as they browse a wide selection of optical frames and sunglasses from the optical boutique with an in house edging lab for one hour service on single vision lenses —plus a fully-stocked contact lens dispensary is ready to conveniently service patients 


About the opening 

The practice is seeking one full-time Doctor of Optometry to be a partner in the practice, providing high-quality care for patients of all ages, insurances, and visual/medical diagnoses. In this role, you’ll perform eye exams for vision and ocular health, evaluate patients for contact lenses and interpret advanced ocular testing results. The current office hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The OD will work 4 days per week at 40 hours per week, as well as be available on-call at times.


To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as compassion for patient health and safety. The ideal candidate will be ambitious, responsible, service-oriented, community-involved, and willing to integrate new techniques and innovations that improve patient care and services. Additionally, the minimum qualifications include: 

  • Doctor of Optometry licensed in the state of Maine
