What You'll Do

As the Director – Software Engineering, you will be responsible for leading the development of our SaaS practice management platform, including web front-end, back-end, and external integrations.


As an engineering leader you will inspire, lead, mentor and manage a geo-distributed engineering organization as we modernize our platform architecture, continuously improve our delivery execution and transform the way our customers deliver eyecare.  You will partner with leaders from product, user experience, technical support, and cloud operations to deliver an efficient, customer-focused, and scalable SaaS product that delights our customers.  You will provide enough structure to deliver work that has the biggest impact for Eyefinity’s customers while empowering teams to deliver beyond our customers’ expectations.

Responsibilities

•    Establishes and leads strategy and innovation for product engineering to ensure high quality software development and implementation of our SaaS solutions 
•    Planning at the year, multi-year, and program levels; integrate strategic technology planning with product roadmaps to deliver on the product roadmap while balancing feature delivery, operational health, and bug fixes 
•    Drive and adopt strategic and transformational change at a functional and enterprise level
•    Help employees grow through career development, coaching, and mentoring while fostering a high-performing engineering culture and retaining top talent 
•    Strategic problem solving primarily associated with strategic business and technology challenges
•    Introduce, develop, and maintain tools, practices, and processes to help the organization scale, design best-in-class architecture, and develop test and release automation
•    Monitor current and future trends, technology, and information; apply and integrate emerging technological trends to improve system capabilities and maximize development efficiency 
•    Champion an atmosphere of continuous improvement with a metrics driven culture 
•    Distill complex and ambiguous situations into actionable plans for your organization
•    Actively manage risk at a functional, business, and enterprise level
•    Oversee development of the department’s budget; monitor expenses to ensure department costs are within established levels

Requirements

•    BS/MS/PhD in CS/EE or equivalent 
•    15+ years of management experience, with responsibilities for hiring, training, assigning work and managing performance of direct reports 
•    Creative and driven leader with excellent communication, organization and technical skills
•    Demonstrated strategic planning capabilities  
•    Direct experience in architecting and building SaaS products delivered on any of AWS or Azure or GCP
•    Experience working directly with customers and vendors 
•    Experience building and cultivating strong engineering practices and processes 
•    Knowledge of service architectures, distributed systems, and scaling business critical systems 
•    Familiarity with leading technologies and trends such as Microservices, cloud native services, serverless technologies and external integrations
•    Experience in Agile methodology, especially Scrum 
•    Experience implementing rolling deployment strategies including blue/green, canary, etc. 
•    Experience deploying continuous integration and delivery systems such as Jenkins 
•    Fundamental knowledge of DevOps methodologies in a production environment
•    Preferred experience within healthcare domain
