General Summary
Manages and controls the general accounting, financial reporting, and financial analysis functions and other analyses for the materials and services companies of assigned VSP Global LOB. Supports projects and other strategic initiatives across these entities, including acquisitions, joint ventures, and supply chain programs. Works closely with the Financial Assistant Controller to ensure consistency across companies and support the overall corporate finance function.
Essential Functions
Review entries to the general ledger to ensure accuracy and compliance with established accounting principles and procedures
Maintain a system of accounts, keeps books and records on all transactions; prepare financial reports as required
Direct research and analysis of business and financial information; make recommendations and assist in establishing the strategic direction
Oversee research, analyses, and reporting of fluctuations in financial and business results to identify trends and research variances; make recommendations to improve company performance and resolve issues
Oversee research, analyses, and reporting of fluctuations between actual financial results and forecasted amounts to advise management on potential areas of impact; make recommendations for corrective action
Assist in the preparation of financial forecasts and budgets for the development of strategic business plans for the company
Work with other Finance management to coordinate and prepare for financial audits as required by the board, insurance departments, banks, governmental regulations, or other organizations, related to each company
Recommend and implement changes in financial policies and procedures that will serve the company’s needs and provides continuous quality improvements
Monitor established internal controls and new accounting guidance to ensure proper compliance and protection of the company’s interests
Work with other Finance management to implement and maintain activity-based costing, including product profitability, and develop and maintain the CPM (dashboard) methodology for the companies; partner with senior management to identify and measure key performance metrics
Monitor performance of direct reports; provide prompt and objective coaching and counseling.; conduct performance reviews, approve performance appraisals initiated by direct reports, and recommend salary increases
Assure effective communications are maintained within areas of responsibility; where appropriate, inform employees as to plans and progress; conduct employee discussion sessions at regular and frequent intervals
Prioritize, assign, and distribute work of the department personnel to ensure responsibility is at the appropriate level and team member skills are developed to support the department’s business needs
Monitor unit’s turnover, productivity and overall performance to ensure adequate staffing and performance that meet department standards
Participate in the interviewing and hiring process for open positions within the department to ensure most qualified candidates are selected
Develop the unit budget, monitor expenses to ensure unit costs are within established levels
Job Specifications
Typically has the following skills or abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
Minimum of 8 years of management experience with responsibilities for hiring, training, assigning work and managing the performance of direct reports
Demonstrated ability to conduct various types of analyses, including cost-benefit and alternative analysis
Proficient in spreadsheet applications and financial/analysis systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to analyze work processes and drive changes
Strong organizational skills--ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously
Strong interpersonal relationship skills
Strong organizational, facilitation, and negotiation skills
Clean credit history as reported by credit report
Preferred Skills
Advanced data analytic skills to drive data analytic and automation for Finance
Ability to develop common FP&A data processes for analytics and forecasting
Deep business knowledge to understand data across all VSP LOBs
Strong financial analysis acumen
Ability to drive recommendations with Sr Leadership on financial forecasts and strategy
