Senior Competitive Intelligence Analyst, VSP Vision Care

General Summary

With minimal supervision, is responsible for aggregating and synthesizing research and analyses from various sources and channels to support the identification of key trends and competitive threats, as a key resource for the team and other business leaders as they identify and drive strategic and transformational initiatives across the organization.

Essential Functions

Act as a central aggregator of competitive intelligence (CI) and industry information, specifically to support enterprise strategy activities and deliverables


Network and collaborate with customer insights analysts, marketing analysts, and business analysts across the enterprise to gather and synthesize intelligence in support of enterprise strategy formation


Collaborate with the team and other departments to identify key insights, and ensure they are presented and communicated effectively to drive action


Continuously monitor competitive vision industry landscape to provide stakeholders with appropriate competitor intelligence related to key metrics (market share, growth, offerings, new innovations, etc.).


Create and maintain competitor profiles on each of VSP’s major competitors: report topics include geographic markets served, management team, products & services, value proposition, marketing and promotional activity, M&A activity, channel strategy, customer count and market share, plus other characteristics that define the competitor


Listen to earnings calls of all publicly traded competitors, and report highlights to global executive team and other interested stakeholders


Work with Customer Insights team to ensure CI documents and deliverables are managed and stored within the existing tools and databases


Perform ad hoc research as requested by the senior executives in support of business strategy development

Job Specifications

Typically has the following skills or abilities:


Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, statistics or related field


Five years of experience, in research, data analytics, market analysis, competitive intelligence, consulting or strategic planning


Strong analytical and problem-solving skills


Strong verbal and written communication skills with a keen eye for detail


Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint


Broad knowledge and experience with the information technology used for searching, delivering and sharing of information and intelligence


Excellent search and research skills, including experience with the use of online databases and the Internet


Comfort with ambiguity; ability to work with incomplete data or seemingly open-ended questions and translate into actionable analysis


Proficient in handling multiple concurrent projects and deadlines


Personal and professional integrity with the ability to preserve confidentiality


Self-assured, but with a highly collaborative mindset.


Regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment the in performance of his/her job duties

Working Conditions / Physical Demands

The working environment is generally favorable.  Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust etc.
