General Summary

With minimal direction, manage, train and evaluate sales staff to achieve company goals. Sell VSP’s products and services through the distribution channel (brokers and direct) by renewing/selling existing accounts and developing new prospects.

Essential Functions

Formulate and implement strategic business plans specific to the needs of individual team members.


Exercise in-depth knowledge of the organization’s services, products and marketing techniques to achieve market share growth objectives and operational goals.


Cultivate and develop strong relationships with the broker/consultant community.


Educate customers on industry and price trends in order to inform and assist with business decisions.


Maintain current working knowledge on existing and new products/services and other general information to ensure accurate information is provided to customers.


Act as a liaison between various business partners and customers to ensure service levels and expectations are met.


Utilize sales automation to make inquiries, maintain records and prepare reports.


Monitor the performance of direct reports to ensure sales goals are met. Provide prompt and objective coaching and counseling. Conduct performance reviews and recommend salary increases.


Develop unit budgets and monitor expenses to ensure costs are within established levels.


Identify and assign resources to meet business objectives. Identify staff training needs based upon the needs and priorities of VSP.


Assure effective communications are maintained within the unit and externally. Where appropriate, inform employees as to plans and progress. Conduct employee discussion sessions at regular intervals.


Monitor unit turnover, productivity and overall performance to ensure adequate staffing and performance that meets department standards.


Participate in the interviewing and hiring process for open positions within the unit to ensure the most qualified candidates are selected.

Job Specifications

Typically has the following skills or abilities:


Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field, or equivalent experience.


Minimum of eight years of management, supervisory experience and/or leadership experience.


Five years Inside Sales experience.


Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Demonstrated track record in meeting sales/revenue goals.


In-depth knowledge of underwriting, products, and services.


Excellent customer service skills.


Ability to analyze work processes.


Strong organization skills.

The working environment is generally favorable, lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
