General Summary

Responsible for leading, planning, organizing and directing the performance and operational functions of the Health & Government Markets SBU. Oversee the Strategic Business Unit’s (SBU) business and strategic plans to ensure profitable benefit plan business within VSP.


Essential Functions

Develop and execute growth strategies to increase membership and revenue through health plan partners, with a focus on Medicaid and Medicare.


Define and recommend objectives in each area of responsibility; develop specific short-term and long-term plans and programs, together with supporting budget requests and financial estimates.


Review and approve the implementation of SBU organizational plans that support the membership, EBITDA and revenue goals within VSP


Maintain industry knowledge and relationships in order to forecast and respond to the market


Establish strategic direction of business investment trade-off, acquisition and retention


Assist with innovative ideas to move VSP forward in the market and positively impact our stakeholders – members, clients, doctors, and employees


Lead SBU operations and work with cross functional operations teams to ensure client operational and compliance needs are met


Work with executives and other SBU leaders on direction and development of the vision care business


Lead sales management in establishing annual goals and plans as well as education and management training


Collaborate with Marketing, Board and business leaders on development of new products and enhancements to existing products pertaining to the benefits business


Obtain appropriate profitability on risk business as well as appropriate administrative fees for self-funded business


Partners with sales leadership on the attraction, retention and development of a high-performance workforce


Develop and monitor succession planning process for top leadership positions


Develop top leadership through selection, coaching and reinforcement

Job Specifications

Typically has the following skills or abilities:


Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field, or equivalent experience


Fifteen years of sales management experience, preferably in Healthcare/Insurance industry with a focus on Medicare business.


Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skill


In depth knowledge of underwriting, products, services and healthcare industry


Clean DMV record


Ability to travel up to 30-40% of the time

The working environment is generally favorable.  Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust etc.
