Corporate Development Analyst, VSP Vision Care

General Summary

Under moderate supervision apply analytical, operational, and/or technical knowledge and skills to carry out complex assignments.  Use and develop creative and innovative techniques in defining problems, selecting approach, gathering input, identifying solutions, and finalizing conclusions.

Essential Functions

Maintain an awareness of developments and issues, both internal and external, to the company which impact investment analysis review and decisions


Work with management on modeling, due diligence activities and preparation of reports required for the investment decision approval process


Contribute to analytic modeling and forecasting activities utilizing the framework appropriate for the situation


Manage acquisition timeline for each deal sourced; oversee the development of deliverables


Externally interface with acquisition sources and targets; take an active role in establishing transition and integration strategies


Analyze significant investment opportunities, including mergers, acquisitions, new lines of business, or changes in company direction; activities include:


Gathering business and financial information on companies and industries

Analyzing the historical financial performance of companies and build projections based on industry trends and the competitive position of the company

Assessing the business and strategic fit of potential acquisitions, given the company’s strategy

Developing valuation range utilizing valuation techniques, including comparative valuation of comparable publicly traded companies or similar merger transactions, discounted cash flow, asset valuation


Research the market and internal business to find and leverage patterns


Evaluates alternative solutions and develops processing systems which include cost/benefit analysis, and input/output formats


Job Specifications

Typically has the following skills or abilities:


Bachelors Degree in Business Administration or related field or equivalent experience


Five years direct experience in analyzing investment projects


Five years experience conducting strategic analysis with various frameworks including SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats), scenario planning, balance scorecards, decision trees, financial models, etc.


Five years experience with financial and risk analysis, making recommendations and preparing business cases (CBA)


Advanced computer skills associated with financial modeling and analysis database packages, plus statistical analysis


Advanced experience with researching and data gathering methods


Knowledge of project planning techniques


Excellent planning and organizational skills


Effective interpersonal and written communication skills


Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time


Ability to regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment in the performance of his/her job duties

Preferred Skills

Highly proficient with Microsoft office suite including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook with advanced skills in Excel a must


One to three years' experience with researching and data gathering methods, conducting cost-benefit analysis and preparing business cases


Previous experience with enterprise-wide projects


Highly numerate, with advanced financial analysis skills


Comfortable interacting with senior management


Confident working interdependently both under own initiative and as a strong team player


Strong analytical problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically about business opportunities

Working Conditions / Physical Demands

The working environment is generally favorable.  Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust etc.
