General Summary

With general direction, the Senior Director is responsible for the strategic development and operational management of the Global Distribution. Main responsibilities include: inbound transportation, “four-walls” operations management and outbound delivery, with the final goal of ensuring world-class service and overall optimization of cost.

Essential Functions

Develops and manages the strategic implementation of the company’s distribution processes to ensure that products are available and shipments are made accurately and efficiently.  Ensure alignment with the overall distribution strategy


Ensures the timely reporting of relevant information and data to leadership and business partners.


Sets the company’s standards for the appropriate levels of productivity and efficiency within the distribution center.


Sets annual goals and budgets and ensures execution accordingly.


Makes recommendations to executive management for process improvements for all warehouse operations and keeps abreast of new equipment and state-of-the-art technology, with particular attention to automation opportunities.


Manages the entire DC workforce at all levels, ensuring productivity and engagement.


Monitors performance of direct reports; provide prompt and objective coaching and counseling; conducts performance reviews; approves performance appraisals initiated by direct reports; and recommends salary increases


Assures effective communications are maintained within areas of responsibility; where appropriate, informs employees as to plans and progress; conducts employee discussion sessions at regular and frequent intervals


Prioritizes, assigns, and distributes work of the department personnel to ensure responsibility is at the appropriate level and team member skills are developed to support the department’s business needs


Establishes and maintains productive working relationships with key personnel domestic and internationally. Communicates with internal/external customers and executive management as needed.


Establishes policies and procedures that ensure absolute control of finished goods at all times.


Directs, in cooperation with VSP’s Security department, security & safety staff to establish and maintain adequate regulations and direct security procedures for the organization.


In cooperation with VSP Procurement, negotiates contracts with UPS/Fed-Ex/USPS and/or other delivery partners in order to ensure world-class service to customers as well as optimization of costs.


Perform all other functions as required.

Job Specifications

Typically has the following skills or abilities:


Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience


Fifteen years of distribution and/or logistics experience


Fifteen years managerial and/or supervisory experience; directly managing people and teams


Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills


Demonstrated ability to make management decisions with wide ranging impact


Ability to represent the company externally to clients, customers, public officials, speaking engagements, etc. as needed


Excellent project management skills and experience managing large projects required. 


Must be able to prioritize work for subordinates


Excellent organizational skills, detailed oriented and able to focus and execute.


Travel about 15% of the time both domestic and international



Working Conditions / Physical Demands

This position generally works in a warehouse environment.


While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to:

  • Speak clearly and concisely
  • Hear clearly to understand general conversations in person, over the telephone and in large groups
  • Use hands to manipulate objects and paperwork
  • Use close vision and be able to focus
  • Sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Safely walk in warehouse environment including moving around equipment and shipping materials
  • Walk between buildings in varying weather conditions
  • Travel by car for significant distances and airplane in varying weather conditions
