General Summary

With general supervision, oversees VSP’s security and safety operations to ensure a safe and secure working environment for its employees and business partners. Maintains security and safety teams staffing levels to ensure efficiency and protection levels are adequate, acts as an SME in security & safety related subject matter, manages critical responses as needed across the VSP Global family of companies, implements industry best practices as approved where needed.

Essential Functions

Oversees the security and safety operations, at all facilities, to ensure a safe and secure environment

 

Is engaged in the travel safety program, and supports the department’s role in this function

 

Monitors and recommends program changes to the technology element of the physical security program

 

Develop, implement and enforce corporate security policies and procedures

 

May be required to purchase equipment and supplies to support the department

 

Manage the contract security program to ensure performance expectations are met

 

Works closely with the business partners on actual, potential or perceived security and safety issues

 

Supervises the implementation and administration of the corporate safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe, secure environment

 

Ensures that the Security Department’s policies and procedures are in alignment with HIPAA guidelines and other regulatory requirements

 

Monitors performance of direct reports. Provides prompt and objective coaching and counseling, conducts performance reviews and makes related recommendations

 

Participates in the hiring and interviewing process for open positions within the unit ensuring that the most qualified candidates are selected

 

Assures effective communications are maintained within the department and externally, where appropriate inform employees as to plans and progress, conduct employee discussion sessions at regular intervals

 

Assists in developing the department’s budget, monitors department expenses to ensure unit costs are within established levels

Job Specifications

Typically has the following skills or abilities:

 

Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field or equivalent related experience

 

Eight years of experience administering security or safety policies and procedures in a corporate environment

 

Eight years supervisory/lead experience

 

Proven ability to effectively interact with others to establish and maintain working relationships

 

Ability to assess potential security or safety situations and respond in the most appropriate manner to mitigate risk

 

Familiar with corporate security systems

 

An above average knowledge of security system architecture, access control technology, and the ability to critically analyze and develop remedies to technology & innovation solutions

Ability to travel

 

Understand and manage physical security solutions including camera, access systems, intrusion, polices, investigations, safety responses for first-aid and have a strong understanding of prudent safety practices.

 

Must be able to manage team members, work closely with lines of business in a professional and value added fashion.

 

This position is based in NY, but has a multiple state responsibility for various business lines within our portfolio.
